BMW has announced new updated R1200RT for the 2014 model-year. The 2014 R1200RT comes with a redesigned Flat-Twin Boxer engine that is "basically the same as the DOHC power unit on the BMW R1200GS," according to company press, with some notable differences to make it better suited for longer touring rides.
The new R 1200 RT has a standard two riding modes along with Automatic Stability Control (ASC). The two riding modes, "Rain" and "Road", allow the R 1200 to be adapted to most road conditions. The sporty nature of the R 1200 RT can be experienced to the full in "Dynamic" mode, While Hill Start Control helps to make light work of stopping and starting on an uphill slope.
At the heart of the machine is the same 1,170cc displacement, in a boxer-twin configuration, though as we have mentioned, the cylinder heads are now precision-cooled with water. This brings peak horsepower up to 123hp at 7,750, while torque gets a boost to 92 lbs.ft at 6,500 rpm.
BMW says that other changes to the motor on the R1200RT include an increase in the centrifugal masses of both the crankshaft and the alternator, which provides for a smoother engine operation, especially at slower city-traffic speeds.
MW Motorrad Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment), the new R1200 RT attains unprecedented levels of riding safety, performance and comfort, with the damping automatically adapted to the prevailing conditions to suit individual riding situations and maneuvers.
On the list of special features offered for 2014 you will find Automatic Stability Control, Rain and Road riding modes and Pro mode with "Dynamic" riding mode. Among the optional features you will find Hill Start Control, electronic suspensions (Dynamic ESA) and the LED daytime running lights. As far as design is concerned, the 2014 BMW R1200RT comes with a new body work that was carefully designed to slide easier through the air, a smart dash with a color 5.7" TFT display and a sporty windshield.
