Major factors in favour of using Firefox OS and comparisons with other mobile operating systems
Mozilla's browser-based phone technology is a credible option for the emerging markets. The nonprofit debuted the first version of the software at the Mobile World Congress show in front of 700 people curious to see how will it works.
Firefox OS will have a hard time standing up to the two powerhouses of the mobile market, Google's Android and Apple's iOS.
Mozilla Foundation has always worked to make the web more accessible to everyone, and apart from Firefox OS, there are other tools such as the Firefox Browser, Firefox Marketplace, etc
Comparisons with other mobile operating systems
Firefox OS has been developed with HTML5, CSS and JavaScript. It is based entirely on open standards, and there's no proprietary software or technology involved. HTML5 is known to many developers and it would be an easy way to develop apps for Firefox OS-enabled phones. As with Apple, Google and Microsoft's Mobile OS, Firefox OS, too, has its app stores with lot of quality checks and security controlled mechanisms. Mozilla is facing certain security and privacy issues ot control HTML5-enabled apps(as HTML5 does have some security problems).Major factors in favour of using Firefox OS
Cost : Because it is open source, manufacturers should be able to reduce the cost of smartphones built on Firefox. Therefore Firefox OS-based smartphone should cost less than Rs. 5000 (approximately US$ 99).HTML5 : Like Android, Firefox OS is based on the Linux kernel. It is similar to Chrome OS. Mozilla wanted to create on entire OS in the style of its Web browser. The advantage of this is that Firefox OS will provide native support for HTML5, which is revolutionising the way developers build programs for the Web. This should result in faster and more stable functionality. Also, users will be able to experience the full version of Google Maps, which runs in HTML5.
Open source : Firefox OS has been built on top of Linux, which, as many developers are aware, is open source. This could be an advantage for manufactures to modify Firefox OS according to their choice.
Portability: Firefox OS is expected to run well on all smartphone devices. In fact, sources close to Mozilla suggest the operating system will function well on any device powered by a 600MHz processor or better.
Cloud storage: One reason why Firefox OS-based devices need not use large hard drives is that apps will not be saved locally on devices. Instead, they will be stored on the cloud. Remotely accessing apps does mean that users will need to be connected to the Internet to enjoy their favourite games and programs, but this would enable costs to be further reduced.
Firefox OS will bring an era where we will be using web apps more than websites. Ubuntu for phone will also support Firefox OS to help bring in this change.
